October is Breast cancer awareness month. An annual campaign that increases awareness on the disease. It is also a time for celebrating those who survived and remembering those that we lost. It is a time for women to come together and support each other not as only females but as sisters. Sisters with a cause, to share and spread information.
Breast cancer can effect any female and sometimes male at any age even though it is more common in females in their 40's to 50's. Most doctors will not test unless you meet a certain age criteria or if cancer runs in your family. Mammograms should be performed at least once every year especially if a lump is found. The sooner the detection the better off a woman is. Although, not every woman has access to this type of screening there are still other organizations and foundations that teach women how to perform their own self mammograms at home. Below also explains how to examine yourself.
You can do this in the comfort of your own home and can do it anytime at your convenience.
