Regardless, if  you are new to the gym or have been around, machine weights and freestyle weights are both options that definitely benefit you. Whether you are a newbie or an experienced bodybuilder, each one has their pro's and con's but still should be used through out your workout routine because strength training is important to everyday functioning. It helps:
  • Protects your bone and muscle mass.
  • Keeps the weight off.
  • Makes you stronger and fitter.
  • Tones your muscles by contracting them with a resistant force creating more muscles
  • Improves brain mentality and energy function.
  • Helps burn more calories
  • Prevents disease.
One is not better than the other. Each provides a different range of motion and dynamics for bodily functions. Also, each one hits each muscle fiber differently. Let's start with weight machines. They are great for everyone, are safe, and are structural. They do give results and are awesome if you are starting out in a gym. They give easy and distinct directions. If you are not sure if you are doing it correctly, then you can always ask the front desk clerk or manager to help. Usually, most gyms give a brief 30 minute introduction to the machines when you join.

When you do weights machine, there are some machines to be extra cautious on. They are:
  • Smith Machine-This machine prevents you from getting the full benefit from your squats because you are limited in your range of motion causing you to only focus on a few leg muscles. It can also cause injury to your back and knees if your form is not correct. You get better results with free weight squats.
  • Abduction/adduction machines- This machine does not spot reduce fat like most conclude and only isolates. Full compound movements are better for your legs and thigh area.
  • Behind-the-head lat pull-downs-Some people may not have the shoulder flexibility to perform this exercise and sometimes don't keep their back straight without realizing it. However, when done correctly there are awesome results.

Free weights can include a number of different type of weights. They can be dumbbells, medicine balls, kettle bells, barbells, ankle & wrist weights, and the list just goes on. They even include resistant bands.

You can never go wrong with any of these types of weights. You just want to make sure that if you are going to do free weights that you practice good form. It is always best to get a trainer to start if you are a first timer to free weights. Machines are awesome when you first start on your own but again the gym staff will always help and show you the ropes if you are unsure how to use them.

Weight machines and Free weights are both great for everyday workout routines because they all create muscle confusion which is needed to prevent plateaus and create fat burn. However, if you consistently only do the weight machines by themselves eventually you could end up on a plateau which is why both is better than just one. With free weights, you will always have that variety.
